More than a million baby slings recalled over infant death fears

Best Blogger Tips

MORE than one million baby slings have been recalled in the US and Canada over infant death fears.

US manufacturer Infantino advised parents to stop using its SlingRider and Wendy Bellissimo slings "for infants younger than four months of age due to risk of suffocation".

The slings, which have been available in the US and Canada since 2003 and have been made trendy by stars such as Nicole Kidman, were linked to the deaths of three babies.

The recall follows a warning by health and safety authorities that all baby slings pose a safety risk if used incorrectly.

Young babies who cannot control their heads risk being suffocated because the sling’s fabric can block their nose and mouth.

Slings that keep the baby in a curled position, bending the chin towards the chest, can also restrict its ability to breathe.
